Troubleshooting Tips For Your HE Front Loading Washer

Front loading washers are a little different than your usual top loading machines. They require a little more care and maintenance than a top loader. If you aren't careful with your machine, it can mean a pricey repair cost for you. See below for a few troubleshooting tips to help you keep your washing machine working properly.

Moldy Smell

If your front loading washer has a moldy smell, or your clothing has a moldy smell to them, you may need to clean up your machine. To clean your machine, simply pour bleach into the bleach reserve and turn the washing machine onto the clean washer setting. You need to also be sure when your machine is not in use to keep the door open. There is an air tight seal in the door that traps moisture in the machine, so if it's closed all the time, that moisture will allow bacteria, mold and mildew to grow. Be sure to look inside the inner seal to clean up any mold inside the seal. Simply pull up the seal and clean it out with a rag soaked with bleach or white vinegar. You can also clean the drum with a bleach or white vinegar soaked rag.

Vibrates Or Makes Loud Noises

If your washer is rocking or making loud noises while in the spin cycle, you may need to check the "legs" on the bottom of the machine first. Check to be sure the machine is level. Then check the clothing inside--it may be too full. Try to take some of the load out of the machine to see if that helps. If it's still rocking, you may have a problem with a broken nut around the drum. You can either try to take the machine apart yourself by taking off the back panel, or call your local appliance repair company for help with this.

Clothes Are Soapy

If the cycle ends and your clothes still have soap on them, check to be sure you used HE (high efficiency) detergent. If you used regular detergent, it can make too many bubbles in your machine. Simply run your machine again without any soap to get the soap out of your clothing. If you used HE detergent, you may be using too much detergent. Follow the manufacturer directions on how much soap to use in your machine.

HE Front loading washers are nice to have, as they are more energy efficient; however, you need to take good care of them in order to keep it working like new. For more information, contact a business like Wiseman's Appliance.
